Music History Class for Homeschoolers
This class meets every week for 50 minutes, on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:20pm. The goal of this class is to give students a familiarity of famous composers and great classical music, as well as to increase the students' understanding of and appreciation for music. This class is appropriate both for students who do not have a music background, as well as for those who are currently taking private lessons in any instrument. Ages: 5-10. I currently have a few openings for this class, so please contact me if you are interested in signing up.
I am interested in starting an advanced class for junior high and/or high school students, so please contact me if this interests you.

The curriculum used in this class was written by the instructor. We study a different composer every three weeks, and assemble a lapbook for each composer.
Lapbooking is a very visual and creative way to work with the facts and terms that we learn about each composer and his/her music. It is a memorable way for students to learn, and it is also a lot of fun! Below are a couple of photos of a composer lapbook:
Here is a sampling of the activities we do during class:
- Listen to the instructor teach about the life and music of a famous composer.
- Color a picture of the composer.
- Cut and glue the "minibooks" into the lapbook.
- Listen to musical examples of the composer's work.
Please contact me with any questions or to sign up for this class.
If you are a homeschooling parent or music teacher, you can purchase the Great Composers & Their Music lapbooking curriculum to use yourself with your students here.
